OUR STORY

A bitter truth:

The current Engineering in India does not give students the right practical education. This kind of education only helps them with theoretical questions but often lacks behind when it comes to practical applications. The whole idea of engineering is to make human life better , to mould the world of the emerging tomorrow, to build up on ideas that are confined on sheets of paper. Well MavericksUAS is one of those teams that emphasizes on doing the exact very thing. At Mavericks we strive to bring each and every member to the levels of the real world engineers capable of understanding and tackling any real world problem. In today's modern times drones or UAVs have become the recent fad but what people often tend to miss out on is the research that goes on the background. There are so many challenges which would leave even the most experienced person baffled by it's very own complexity. This is because it's a new emerging field and it's a field that requires expertise in multiple disciplines.Which is exactly what we try to teach at MavericksUAS. We want to bring together a group of individuals who can help to make the world a better place. People who have hidden talents and need a proper platform to showcase them. MavericksUAS is that very platform. Today the team is a 20 people strong strong mix of senior and junior members. The senior team comprises of the minds behind the inception of the project and the junior team are of course the new budding engineers looking to gain knowledge and experience in this wonderful world of drone building.

The teams have made their own journeys to the place where they have reached today and they both have their own views.

An experienced senior perspective:

We put in years of hardwork, spent countless nights brushing up and perfecting our knowledge, our skill-sets and it all finally paid off. On 28th March , 2018 we created our first autonomous transition VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) . It is a product of sweat and tears , a project which took two years in the making . It still stands as a reminder that it is just the beginning and that our best is yet to come. Now that we have reached this point we can do so much more. Our little team of the core 4 has now increased to a rocking team of 20 members . Along with them we shall prove to the world that MavericksUAS is one of the finest teams of our college.

A fresh junior perspective:

Drones are no joke. There's a whole lot of technology that goes in the making to get them to fly. This type of project requires dedicated people ,people who are willing and are able to take in a whole lot of information while implementing it to make their very own product. Which is why these set of juniors were selected to become a part of the team after a tough screening process. These are the best of the best kids who have hopes in their eyes and the sheer will to leave a mark on the world. They have now become part of the Mavericks family and are learning the ways of how this family functions. Soon they will be taking over the team and the legacy left behind by the seniors , building their own upgrades and winning competitions all over the world.

Our Achievements

With all the man hours spent on the development of innovative ideas and the research that has gone behind it we have been able to achieve our own success. Here are some to name a few:

Bombay Times featured us as “Bombay’s New Generation of Drone Enthusiasts”. Read more here...

Designed and Fabricated a one of a kind autonomous VTOL (Vertical take off and landing) UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) at a unprecedented rate.

We built a hexacopter embedded with complete autonomous capabilities like landing and take-off and also self-return to launch site.

We have also worked on computer vision and image processing involving facial recognition, depth sensing and environment detection.

Successfully Organised workshop for Freshmans on Home Automation, Arduino and Machine Learning.

About AUVSI SUAS 2019

The AUVSI SUAS Competition is designed to foster interest in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), stimulate interest in UAS technologies and careers, and to engage students in a challenging UAS mission. The competition requires students to design, integrate, report on, and demonstrate a UAS capable of autonomous flight and navigation, remote sensing via onboard payload sensors, and execution of a specific set of tasks. The competition has been held annually since 2002.

Why help us?

The drone sector, however old still has loads of potential for progress. New ideas are thought of everyday and new designs based on them are forged. We wanted to enter this race of drone perfection with our own concepts and we immediately saw the great deal of obstacles in our way. But we were of the belief that never say never. So we dived into this sea of difficulties head first. And this is exactly why we need you. We are teens studying engineering, paying hefty education fees unable to raise the funds for our wide eyed projects on our own. When our drone took flight, we did our college proud. We did our families proud. But we were far from achieving our goal. To keep up with our competition, to stay the best, we need to keep updating and adapting to the new norms for our UAV and that costs money. So we ask you to help us pursue our goals. Your push is what will help keep our drone flying and we promise your help will be put to good use.

How will your funds be used?

We assure you that your funds will be put to good use. Here is the approximate fund breakup:

Design and Fabrication: Rs. 24,000

Electronics and Propulsion Systems: Rs. 45,000

Autonomous Systems: Rs. 26,000

Transportation and Permissions: Rs. 5,000
